Itinerary at a Glance
Livingstone, Zambia & Chobe, Botswana
Livingstone, Zambia
Three nights in Livingstone, Zambia, combining Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, and the Zambezi River. Experiences include a guided tour of Victoria Falls from the Zambian side, white rhino tracking on foot, an elephant interaction beside the river, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi, a visit to Mukuni Village and Maramba Market, and a 5-course dinner aboard the Royal Livingstone Express crossing the Victoria Falls Bridge at sunset.
Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park occupies a narrow stretch of riverfront upstream from Victoria Falls and remains the only place in Zambia where white rhino can be seen in the wild. The park is small by African standards, but unusually dense in detail: riverine forest sustained by spray from the Falls, elephant crossing routes along the Zambezi, and more than 400 recorded bird species, including African skimmers, bee-eaters, kingfishers, and raptors that ride the thermals above the Batoka Gorge. Wildlife moves easily between riverbank, woodland, and open grassland, often within sight of the spray rising from the Falls themselves.
The Zambezi shapes nearly every part of the experience here. Late afternoons unfold on the river as hippos surface in the channels and crocodiles settle onto the banks in the fading light. Even dinner becomes part of the landscape aboard the Royal Livingstone Express, a restored train that crosses the Victoria Falls Bridge at sunset.
Set on the banks of the Zambezi River, Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya is a modern riverside hotel with expansive river views, outdoor pools, spa facilities, and locally inspired dining overlooking the water. Contemporary in style yet closely connected to its natural setting, the property serves as the Livingstone base for the Zambia portion of the journey.
Included:
- 3 breakfasts, 1 lunch, 1 dinner, 1 sundowner drinks and canapés on the river
- Guided Victoria Falls tour
- Morning walk with white rhino and game drive in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park
- Elephant interaction with lunch
- Sunset river cruise with local drinks and canapés
- Mukuni Village and Maramba Market tour
- Royal Livingstone Express 5-course dinner with selected beverages
Chobe, Botswana
Four nights in Chobe National Park, Botswana, focused on river safaris, game drives, night drives, and wildlife viewing along the Chobe River. Experiences include game viewing river cruises, drives in search of elephant, lion, leopard, and African wild dog, night drives, and a community and bicycle tour through the Lesoma Valley.
Chobe National Park is shaped by water. The Chobe River forms the park’s northern boundary and sustains one of the largest concentrations of elephants in Africa, particularly during the dry season, when herds gather along the floodplains and riverbanks in the hundreds. Much of the wildlife viewing here happens at the edge of the water itself: elephants swimming between islands, buffalo moving through the reeds, pods of hippo holding in the channels, and fish eagles calling from the riverine forest overhead. Crocodiles line the banks in the afternoon heat while skimmers and herons work the shallows in fading light.
Away from the river, the landscape opens into teak woodland, mopane forest, and broad interior plains where lion, leopard, giraffe, sable, and African wild dog move across enormous distances. Night drives reveal a different side of the ecosystem entirely, when civets, genets, porcupines, and other nocturnal species emerge after dark. Time in the nearby Lesoma Valley offers a quieter look at the communities that have long lived alongside this wildlife corridor connecting Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
Tlouwana Tented Camp is a boutique tented safari camp designed around the slower rhythms of the bush, with canvas tents tucked among acacia and jackalberry trees on the edge of Chobe National Park. Between river safaris and game drives, guests return to an intimate camp atmosphere shaped by open-air dining, personal hosting, and immersion in the surrounding landscape.
Included:
- 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 4 dinners
- Local brand beverages and laundry
- Game drives and game viewing river cruises in Chobe National Park
- Night drives
- Community tour and bicycle tour in the Lesoma Valley

July – August | Peak Dry Season
July and August are among the most sought-after months for safari travel in both Zambia and Botswana. Days are typically mild to warm, with cool mornings and evenings and very little rainfall. As seasonal water sources dry out, wildlife concentrates along the Chobe River and the Zambezi, creating exceptional game viewing conditions. Elephant herds gather in large numbers along the Chobe floodplains, while visibility through the bush improves as vegetation thins during the dry season.
Victoria Falls is usually flowing strongly during this period following the rainy season upstream, with substantial spray and dramatic water volume along the Zambian side of the Falls.
October | Hot Season & Dramatic Wildlife Viewing
October marks the end of the dry season and is often considered one of the most intense wildlife viewing periods of the year. Temperatures rise significantly across both Zambia and Botswana, with hot afternoons and warm evenings, but wildlife activity around the rivers increases as animals rely heavily on permanent water sources.
Along the Chobe River, large elephant herds, buffalo, and predators are commonly seen near the shoreline and floodplains. In Livingstone, water levels at Victoria Falls begin to drop, revealing more of the gorge structure and creating clearer views from the Zambian side.
November – December | Early Green Season
The first rains typically arrive in November, transforming the landscape from dry winter bush to fresh green vegetation. Temperatures remain warm, often accompanied by dramatic afternoon clouds and occasional thunderstorms. This transitional season brings excellent photographic conditions, clearer air, and fewer visitors throughout the region.
Birdlife becomes especially active during this time, with migratory species returning to the Zambezi and Chobe ecosystems. Young animals begin appearing across the floodplains, while the changing light and greener landscapes create a very different atmosphere from the peak dry season months.
Victoria Falls continues to offer strong flow in November, while December often brings lower water levels and increased visibility into the gorge itself, particularly from the Zambian side.
