When planning a custom safari for families, family unit availability is a top consideration second only to choosing a productive wildlife destination. It’s not always easy finding camps in prime locations where a family of four or more can sleep together in the same tent or adjacent rooms. But we do have a great option for families in the Okavango Delta.
Seba Camp, in the Okavango Delta, is picturesquely set in a forest of hardwood trees overlooking a perennial lagoon and it was designed with families in mind. Eight luxury tents include two designed for families, with interconnecting bedrooms and plunge pools. Opportunities to explore your surroundings include guided game drives, rides in a mokoro (dug-out canoe) or guided walks.
And there is so much to see! The Seba area is known for its large elephant population. In addition, unlike the permanently inundated areas of the Okavango Delta, the habitats around Seba vary greatly, allowing for an abundance of general game viewing, including giraffe, zebra, antelope such as impala, tsessebe, lechwe and wildebeest, and buffalo and warthog. Leopard are common, and hyena and African wild dog are also regularly seen, while a number of lion have moved into the area, and can sometimes be heard roaring at night.
Entertaining activities led by guides encourage children — and interested adults — to learn about and fall in love with wildlife and nature, for example, photography or catch-and-release fishing. Younger guests can paint with natural powder-paints or make a scrapbook. After dinner, young and old(er) can sit by the fire and listen to traditional Botswana stories or work off any remaining energy learning local dances.
Whether you are a family of three or four or a larger multi-generational group, Seba Camp is a wonderful way to bring your family together in an exceptional place, and can be one of several camps in a custom safari we can design around your preferred dates, and number of travelers.
