Timeless Lands by Private Jet

A Grand Exploration of South Asia with Toby Sinclair
In March 2027, Bushtracks invites a select group of travelers to join us on an exceptional new journey: Timeless Lands, a privately guided expedition across the Indian subcontinent led by renowned historian, award-winning naturalist, and filmmaker Toby Sinclair, alongside our Founder & CEO David Tett.
This is no ordinary itinerary. Spanning sacred valleys, ancient cities, and wildlife sanctuaries in India, Nepal, and Bhutan, this journey offers privileged access to places and perspectives rarely available. At the center of it all is Toby, a lifelong explorer of the region, whose personal story is as rich and layered as the landscapes we will traverse.
“This is, in part, a personal journey,” Toby reflects. “I began my career in South Asia in 1976 at Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge in Nepal’s Chitwan National Park. At the time, it was the finest wildlife project in Asia, equal to anything in Africa. While the lodge itself no longer operates, Chitwan has evolved into a conservation success story. Rhino populations have grown, tigers have returned, and protection efforts—now deeply rooted in community involvement—have transformed the park. The mosaic of grassland, forest, and river, with a backdrop of the world’s highest peaks, is now home to over 500 bird species, the elusive Gangetic dolphin, and the critically endangered gharial.”
In the late 1970s, Toby moved to Kathmandu, immersing himself in the cultural and spiritual rhythms of the valley. At that time, Tiger Tops had launched a river running company and merged with one of the region’s pioneering trekking and mountaineering outfitters. Weekends were devoted to wandering the backstreets of Patan and Bhaktapur, studying temple spires and tracing ancient trade routes on foot. Those early discoveries ignited a lifelong bond with the Himalayas—one that continues to call him back, time and again.
By the early 1980s, Toby had moved to India with his partner and future wife. His work expanded into developing treks in Kashmir, Ladakh, and Garhwal, and later into establishing lodges and safari camps along the wild edges of parks in central India and Corbett, in the Himalayan foothills.
As his understanding of the region deepened, so too did his reach. In the mid-1990s, Toby transitioned into natural history filmmaking, handling the local production and planning award-winning documentaries across South Asia for the BBC, PBS, National Geographic, Discovery, Animal Planet, Channel Plus, ABC, Disneynature, NDR, and more.
NHNZ, and Netflix. These projects took him to remote locations across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka, including extensive work on tiger conservation in Panna and Chitwan National Parks.
“It has been, and continues to be, a remarkable journey through timeless lands,” he says. “My work has brought me to places rarely visited and introduced me to the people and stories that define this region’s cultural and ecological richness.”

Toby’s intellectual pursuits are equally impressive. In the early 1990s, he joined a research project focused on the exquisite 10th and 11th century temples of Central India. The result was Divine Ecstasy – The Story of Khajuraho (Viking Penguin, 1992), a seminal text on one of India’s most extraordinary architectural legacies. More recently, during the pandemic, he co-authored A New History of India (Aleph, 2023) and A New History of India for Children (Aleph, 2025), expanding his commitment to education and cultural preservation for future generations.
“Khajuraho helped me understand not only Indian art, but the deeper symbolism and philosophical complexity behind it. It gave me the lens to make sense of the iconography and stylistic evolution I had first encountered in the Kathmandu Valley almost fifty years ago.”
Timeless Lands is the culmination of his life’s work—an intimate, expertly guided exploration across cultures, religions, habitats, and histories that have shaped the soul of South Asia.
Crafted with precision and intention, this experience is limited in size, elevated in comfort, and unmatched in depth. With private jet transfers, exclusive experiences, and accommodations that reflect the character and elegance of each region, every detail has been curated to ensure both discovery and ease.
This is more than a journey. It is an invitation to travel in the company of one of South Asia’s most esteemed guides—to see, feel, and understand a place through the eyes of someone who has dedicated his life to its preservation and storytelling.
For those with a spirit of curiosity and a love of true exploration, Timeless Lands offers something rare: the chance to encounter South Asia not as an outsider, but as a welcomed guest, guided by a master interpreter of its wonders.
