Don’t miss out on Zimbabwe’s Secret Season...

...code for Africa’s green savannas when the bushveld comes alive. Newborn animals of all species take over the bush, and dry landscapes like the savannas of Hwange Game Reserve transform into verdant seas.
Beyond offering great value, Secret Season safaris in Zimbabwe offer exceptional game viewing, a productive paradise of vibrant floral displays, and a kaleidoscope of colors which draws wildlife enthusiasts, and hobbyist and professional photographers alike. Summer mornings are exquisite. The temperature is perfect for pre-dawn starts to the day; like the animals, you can use the warmer midday for a siesta. Light for photography is at its best all year, while afternoon cloud formations add mood and contrast.

In Our Travelers' Words

The Peacock Family

The Peacock Family

Multi-Generational Safari

"Our youngest, Emily is almost 7. And mom and dad are in their late 70's. And the rest of us fall somewhere in between - and I can tell you we ALL just had the best time! It's tricky to have a plan that appeals to everyone. The thought of our daily adventure was so exciting, that no one minded the early morning wake-ups - not even the teenagers! They were often the first ones on the jeep - as they couldn't wait to start the drive each day."

Family Safari

"My father-in-law had always wanted to go to Africa, and invited us all to go with him to celebrate his 80th birthday. We went with no expectations, and the trip was beyond anything we could have imagined. In each camp we were exhilarated to be so unbelievably close to animals. Our guides really turned the safari into an educational experience for the girls with in-depth discussions on not just the wildlife, but also history, culture, and the relationship between tourism and the environment. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime trip – but we hope to return."

Active Safari

"This was our fourth trip to Africa, and by far the best. We keep going back because we love the whole experience: the people, the wildlife, their behavior, the environment, the accommodations, the music, everything. We chose Bushtracks for this custom adventure with two goals: to see the migration and to see the gorillas. Experiencing the migration was like witnessing a miracle in process. Could it get any better? Yes - the gorilla treks were the most exhausting thing we've ever done, but worth every exhilarating ache. Amazing!"

At the end of the day our travelers are most qualified to describe the African safari experience, and they certainly say it best.

Johannesburg, South Africa

Known as Joburg, Jozi, or Egoli 'the City of Gold '; Johannesburg serves as the main international airport when arriving in southern Africa. Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Witnessing the magnificence of Victoria Falls is one of those must-sees, made even more appealing by staying in beautiful Zambezi riverside lodges. View Mosi-oa-Tunya, the Lozi name for Victoria Falls also known as 'The Smoke That Thunders', by sunset cruises, steam train, or on foot. Day 2-4

Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe

Hwange has an atmosphere unlike anywhere else, created by a landscape of grasslands, mopane woodlands, salt-lick pans, and numerous waterholes. There are huge herds of elephants, including big old bull tuskers, predators like lion, leopard and cheetah, and a better-than-average chance of seeing highly endangered wild dog, thanks to Painted Dog Conservation, an organization with education programs, outreach programs, and an anti-poaching unit. Camp Hwange is situated in its own private concession deep in the Sinamatella area, located in the north part of the Hwange National Park. Indulge in the privacy and wilderness of the bush. With access to the entirety of Hwange National Park, enjoy recurring wildlife sightings. With numerous water holes, an abundance of wildlife and bird sightings waits for you. You can even game view from your chalet with the watering hole near camp. Relax into bush life and appreciate the serenity of wild Africa.

Day 5-7

Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe

You’ll soon see why this was voted Zimbabwe’s Leading Safari Camp and awarded the first Gold certification from Green Tourism, the largest internationally recognized sustainable certification program of its kind. Copper baths have views across the plains and close up animal encounters are assured at the well-frequented elephant pool.

Day 8-10

Kariba, Zimbabwe

When the Zambezi was dammed for hydro-electric power, Nyaminyami River God sent a once-in-a-thousand-year flood to show his displeasure. There's certainly something mysterious about Lake Kariba, with its drowned hardwood tree trunks and glorious sunsets. Watch game in Matusadona National Park and go fishing from boats, but never be tempted to swim - there's a territorial crocodile every 100 yards of shoreline. From the infinity pool you see only the shimmering waters of Lake Kariba - a huge man-made inland sea, rife with myths and legends. Spend days cruising on the lake, fishing, admiring incredible sunsets and spotting elephant, buffalo and lion.
