A Two-river Trip in Southern Africa

Life flourishes along the great Zambezi River, so where better to stay than right on its banks in game-rich Lower Zambezi National Park and again just upriver from Victoria Falls. We then fly into Botswana’s famous Okavango Delta for another top game experience.

Lusaka, Zambia

Day 1-2

Lusaka is Zambia's sprawling capital city and center of business, but not a tourist destination. Kenneth Kaunda International Airport services many destinations and is convenient for accessing some of Zambia's best game reserves in this landlocked country.

Latitude 15

1 Night

This hotel is a pocket of serenity in Zambia’s capital, just 20-minutes from the airport. Artful interior decorating has created airy, sun-lit spaces, with beautiful pool and restaurant terraces. It incorporates a Private Member’s club for socializing, networking and events.

Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

Day 2-5

The Zambezi River forms the country border, with Lower Zambezi N.P in Zambia facing Mana Pools in Zimbabwe. The river has calmed down after its plunge over Victoria Falls, enabling canoe and power boat excursions, plus walks and game drives. Or watch animals from the deck of your riverside lodge.

Potato Bush Camp

3 Nights

Little sister to nearby Sausage Tree Camp - both taking riverside luxury to new heights - this camp has a dedicated family unit. See big game on day and night game drives, walks, canoe, boat and fishing trips.

Livingstone, Zambia

Day 5-7

Dare you take a dip in Devil's Pool right on the edge of Victoria Falls? Many do and see the falls from a unique vantage point very close up. Witnessing the magnificence of Victoria Falls is one of those must-sees, made even more appealing by staying in beautiful Zambezi riverside lodges, with sunset cruises to see Mosi-oa-Tunya, 'The Smoke That Thunders'.

Tongabezi Lodge

2 Nights

Your quirky craft-chic room overlooking the Zambezi 12 miles upstream of Victoria Falls, comes with a valet, who soon becomes indispensable! Activities include lunch on a floating sampan, afternoon tea on Livingstone Island (where the great man stood), and sunset cruises.

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Day 7-10

The allure of the Okavango is its range of habitats, turned into a magical water wonderland by annual floodwaters. This swirl of green on saturated Kalahari sand can be seen from space, and creates an idyllic environment for animals. Incomparable game-viewing options vary from boat, mokoro canoe, 4X4, on foot and an aerial overview from the light aircraft to your lodge.

Little Vumbura

3 Nights

This classic safari camp is shaded by an ancient forest and surrounded by floodplains, and clear water channels, for which the Okavango Delta is famed. Sit in the plunge pool overlooking the floodplains and go game viewing by mokoro canoe.

In Our Travelers' Words

At the end of the day our travelers are most qualified to describe the African safari experience, and they certainly say it best.

The Peacock Family
Multi-Generational Safari

"Our youngest, Emily is almost 7. And mom and dad are in their late 70's. And the rest of us fall somewhere in between - and I can tell you we ALL just had the best time! It's tricky to have a plan that appeals to everyone. The thought of our daily adventure was so exciting, that no one minded the early morning wake-ups - not even the teenagers! They were often the first ones on the jeep - as they couldn't wait to start the drive each day."

The Ousterhout Family
Family Safari

"My father-in-law had always wanted to go to Africa, and invited us all to go with him to celebrate his 80th birthday. We went with no expectations, and the trip was beyond anything we could have imagined. In each camp we were exhilarated to be so unbelievably close to animals. Our guides really turned the safari into an educational experience for the girls with in-depth discussions on not just the wildlife, but also history, culture, and the relationship between tourism and the environment. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime trip – but we hope to return."

Tamar Sherer & Chris Cooper
Active Safari

"This was our fourth trip to Africa, and by far the best. We keep going back because we love the whole experience: the people, the wildlife, their behavior, the environment, the accommodations, the music, everything. We chose Bushtracks for this custom adventure with two goals: to see the migration and to see the gorillas. Experiencing the migration was like witnessing a miracle in process. Could it get any better? Yes - the gorilla treks were the most exhausting thing we've ever done, but worth every exhilarating ache. Amazing!"
