Featured Safari Camp: Linkwasha Camp

Talk about having it all! Linkwasha Camp, newly opened in summer 2015, is located on a private concession within Zimbabwe’s largest national park, Hwange (3.4 million acres).

The 18-bed camp enjoys the best of all worlds: abundant wildlife viewed in a private and exclusive way and a luxurious space to call home at the end of the day. Eight en-suite luxury tents and a family tent overlook the broad plains of Hwange, offering a comfortable base for exploring the area in Land Rovers, on walks with an armed guide, on night drives, or sitting by the camp’s waterhole at sunset while sipping sundowners.

Overlooking a pan that is a magnet for game in all seasons, the fresh, open and airy design of Linkwasha Camp is complemented by an eclectic mix of contemporary interiors with the original spirit and essence of safari. The main area includes various multi-level decks, a pool area and a winter lounge complete with library.

Wildlife frequently encountered in the area includes lion, large herds of elephant, buffalo, cheetah, leopard, spotted hyaena, giraffe, sable, blue wildebeest, impala, waterbuck and reedbuck. In summer, wildebeest, zebra and eland are found in abundance on the open plains, while in winter elephants congregate in enormous numbers around the waterholes. Although sometimes the ever-resourceful pachyderms find alternative sources for water…

…this astonishing photo was recently taken at Linkwasha Camp. The elephants have lately learned that mucky waterhole water isn’t half as tasty as lovely pool water. The camp reports that towards the end of the dry season they were pumping more water into the pool than at the borehole site.
