Delta Air Lines will expand the number of flights between Atlanta and Johannesburg from 3 to 5 per week on December 19. The information comes from Delta’s Director of Sales for Africa, the Middle East, and India, Jimmy Eichelgruen.
The announcement comes after the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) downgraded South Africa’s danger alert level from Level 4 to Level 3 earlier this month. This risk level indicates that only fully vaccinated US citizens should travel. David Frost, the CEO of SATSA, recently informed Travel News about the significant interest and demand for South Africa in the United States. Joe Esposito, S.V.P. – Network Planning, said, “Two-thirds of Americans report making summer travel plans, and with demand growing rapidly alongside U.S. vaccination rates, we’re bringing back more flights and destinations to deliver on their anticipation of getting back out into the world and reclaiming the joy of travel.”
Flights to and from South Africa will be available beginning December 19. flights from South Africa will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, departing Johannesburg at 22h55 and landing in Atlanta at 08h15 the next day.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, flights from Atlanta to Johannesburg will depart at 18h05 and arrive in Johannesburg at 16h30 the following day.
The Airbus A350-900 will be used for the flights from Johannesburg. The aircraft includes award-winning Delta One Suites and Delta Premium Select cabins, as well as huge seat-back entertainment displays and large overhead bins.
