On Wednesday, April 18, 2018, Bushtracks’ owners David and Carolyn Tett joined San Francisco’s animal welfare advocates, government officials, and local luminaries (including those of the canine, feline, equine, and porcine variety!) to celebrate 150 years of rescuing and caring for animals with a gala celebration at San Francisco City Hall. David is pictured introducing the Southern Africa safari lot donated by Bushtracks.
As one of the event’s auction donors, Bushtracks donated a seven-day Southern Africa safari to South Africa and Botswana for two guests with business-class airfare to Africa included. The adventure begins at MalaMala, in South Africa’s Kruger Southern, the best place to see Africa’s big five consistently and up close. The journey continues in Mashatu, Botswana, on a private reserve where big game can be seen on game drives, or on horseback, mountain bikes or walking, as well as take outstanding wildife photos from one of the underground photographic hides. The Bushtracks safari auction lot raised $37,000. In total, the event raised an impressive over $1.8 million.
Proceeds from the SF SPCA 150th Anniversary Celebration will provide essential support for the SF SPCA’s lifesaving programs and Vision 2020, the organization’s plan to end animal abandonment in San Francisco by the year 2020.
“Seeing wildlife in its natural environment, with the interpretation and insight of highly experienced safari guides is an unforgettable experience for anyone, but it is a profoundly moving one for animal enthusiasts,” says Bushtracks Vice President Carolyn Tett, “As a lifelong Bay Area resident who has enjoyed many wonderful dog and cat adoptions over the years, I am delighted that our partners at MalaMala and Mashatu were willing to help us put together a safari package that brings people who care deeply for animals to some of Africa’s most beautiful and unspoiled settings.”
