Eastern Cape
South Africa
In the Shadow of Elephants
The Eastern Cape was ‘frontier country’ for 1820 settlers and many safari lodges have a sense of history, from when farmland was turned back to nature and the old buildings became guest accommodation. The malaria-free private reserves of this area have different biomes than the northern parks providing some less common sightings of brown hyena, bat-eared fox, cheetah, rhino and aardvark.
