"Son of the old moon-mountains African! Stream of the Pyramid and Crocodile! We call thee fruitful, and that very while A desert fills our seeing's inward span."
Journal Entry: Day 10
Meru Tented Camp, Masai Mara, Kenya
Today we flew low over the vast short grass plains of the Masai Mara. Drove a short distance to Govenor's, the only camp within the reserve. Freshened up in my tent on the banks of the Mara River - with a hippo right in front! I can't wait for my balloon excursion tomorrow morning. We have to get up at 4:30am, so we catch the sunrise as the balloons start to drift over the plains.
Fact: I learned today that zebras precede the wildebeest migration. They like the longer grass.
Dinner: Delicious. Ostrich, with a wonderful South African red. And the Amarula night cap under bright stars near the camp fire was very romantic.
The conversation: Unforgettable. Mokoro rides in the Okavango Delta, The Thunderous roar of Victoria Falls, looking in the eyes of a silverback gorilla and congratulations on completing the trek, Masai warriors and their red cloaks from the air, and the laughter and memories among good friends.
After dinner: Can't believe I'm sleeping in a traditional Meru tented camp in the Masai Mara. No electric lights, just the quiet hiss of gas lamps. A real African adventure but with all the creature comforts. Love my tooled leather travel journal, a gift from Bushtracks.
