India and the Himalayas

4 Day Kanha National Park Safari - From: $2,950

Kanha Tiger Reserve, located in central India, makes a wonderful trip extension to your travels in India, whether in the north or south.

Famously the "jungle" that inspired Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book, it is a beautiful area comprised of sal and bamboo forest, grasslands and river habitat. The most prevalent animal is the Chital (or spotted deer) which can be viewed grazing peacefully on meadows or amongst trees, often near langur monkeys, who not only dislodge fruit and seeds from the trees which the chital then eat, but who also provide a look-out for tiger. Over 100 tigers roam the jungle's pristine wilderness, with wild dog and the elusive leopard representing the park's other main predators.

The park is home to the world's only population of the barasingha deer, and the reserve's authorities have been instrumental in rescuing the species from imminent extinction. Explore Kanha's wildlife at close range by jeep, or on elephant-back for a unique safari experience.

Consider adding this four-day Indian safari to one of our other India programs: Legendary Rajasthan or North India and the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels or South India and the Golden Chariot Train.
