Africa

Fly by scheduled air to Katavi National Park with a greater density of mammals than any other Tanzanian reserve. Massed on the plains are the last great herds of buffalo in East Africa, up to 1,000 head. This is the place for the wildlife connoisseur, and the traveler who thinks the African bush can offer up no more surprises. Next, fly by scheduled air to the slopes of the Mahale Mountains, home to the world's largest known population of chimpanzees. Every day you can venture out into the forest to observe them, our closest relatives, as they groom, wrestle and forage.

Trip departs Arusha on Mondays or Thursdays.
Depart Arusha any Monday or Thursday to Katavi National Park. Take a scheduled air flight to Katavi National Park. Hidden in the trees that flank it are just six guest tents with fine wooden furniture, woven rugs and beds spread with crisp white Egyptian cottons. The tents are large, romantic and airy and the bathrooms bush deluxe.
Enjoy game drives and walking safaris that will take you even deeper into Katavi“s untamed world. Rare roan and sable antelope, normally skittish and shy, graze openly on these plains. And on foot we experience another side of Africa, that which would often take flight at the sound of an approaching vehicle. The game is unbelievable with sightings of elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, crocodiles and hippo amongst many others.
Continue by short scheduled air to the Mahale Mountains on the shore of Lake Tanganyika. Transfer by dhow to camp.
Enjoy tracking chimpanzee the next three days. The forest itself is special, with eight other species of primate, shyer forest mammals, birds, butterflies, giant vines and waterfalls. And, if a day's "chimping" isn't enough, you can take a gentle forest hike, go fishing or kayak along the lake shore.
Return to Arusha today by scheduled air.
