Unforgettable Experiences - Rajasthan, Land of Kings

Journal Entry: Day 14 Rajasthan, India

Today's journal entry chronicles Rajasthan, Land of Kings. Logistics were again seamless...presentations comprehensive...unexpected flourishes delightful.

I didn't expect the magic of this expedition.

The Rajputs who have lived here over a thousand years are known for a code of chivalry and honor well evidenced in our game of elephant polo in the forest.

It was impeccably organized by a local family. I got astride my appointed elephant like a maharajah and played a game so regal, the start was celebrated by a royal military brass band. The pounding of huge drums, nagadas, heralded our arrival as we were welcomed by a tableau of camels, elephants and ladies in traditional attire. Sheer joy. What an unbelievable experience!

The aweinspiring Jantar Observatory, City Palace, and Amber Fort were on our docket, too. Superb choices of architectural mastery in a city of opulence. Our private dinner by torchlight in the jungle gardens capped off a magnificent day. I revel in the creature comforts of the Rambagh Palace, home to two generations of royals. I see why it is known as a jewel in the crown of Taj hotels...exhibiting a luxury and extravagance once the sole preserve of kings.

As I slip into bed, my ever-expanding respect and affection for India abounds.
