Southern Tanzania's Best and Zanzibar
Southern Tanzania's Big Game & The White Beaches of Zanzibar
Juxtaposing the rugged beauty of Southern Tanzania's two top safari parks with the white sands and turquoise waters of Zanzibar Island, this safari offers something for everyone: game drives and night drives, walking safaris, wild river excursions, the vibrant culture of Zanzibar’s Stone Town, and beach time. Begin with three days in Ruaha National Park, one of the country’s most unspoiled settings, due to its distance from any major city, and home to one of the largest elephant concentrations in Tanzania. Located in the park’s best game area, your luxury tented camp offers you access to the park’s wildlife: lions, leopards, elephants, kudus and sables, while the nearby Ruaha River is home to crocodiles, pods of hippos, and birdlife. Next, head to Selous Game Reserve, at 28,000 square miles, Africa’s largest game reserve and a World Heritage Site. Your luxurious camp on the Rufiji River gets you up close to zebras, wildebeests, impalas, buffaloes, giraffes, lions and elephants in safari vehicles, in boats and on foot. After six days of remote game viewing in the bush, head to the exotic island of Zanzibar, one of a cluster of islands in the Indian Ocean, and a 20 minute flight from Dar Es Salaam. Explore the winding alleys, mosques and the spice-scented markets of Stone Town, a World Heritage Site rich with the history of African, Arab, and European sea-trading. Conclude your adventure in a white-washed stone bungalow set on a secluded stretch of beach in the northeast of the island, where you can enjoy snorkeling, diving, kayaking, sailing, or simply gazing at the striking blue waters of the Indian Ocean.
