Ancient History Further Up the Nile

In Khartoum, explore the National Museum and its treasures. See frescoes and murals from ruined churches dating from the 8th to the 15th century of ancient Nubia’s Christian period. Two Egyptian temples of Buhen and Semna, excavated and moved from the site of Lake Nassar, can be viewed here. Down river from Khartoum, the ancient pyramids of Meroe are the remnants of a great empire, which still speaks to visitors almost 3000 years later.
