A Remote Desert Adventure
If you want to get away from it all, literally, Purros is the place to visit. It’s one of the most remote areas of Namibia and the perfect place to see desert-adapted elephants, lions, black rhinos and giraffe. Your guide will be able to point out the differences in these unique animals – for example, desert-adapted elephants have longer legs. The Himba people are the traditional residents of Purros, able to extract what they need from the sparse earth around them, while enjoying a strong culture that is as fascinating as it is beautiful. Fortunate visitors may cross paths with Himba travelers and have an authentic meeting with these desert masters. It’s not easy to reach Purros (visitors must arrive by air or a difficult 4x4 track) but the reward is an incredible, pristine landscape far off the beaten-path.
