A Beautiful Blend of Land and Water

Located in northern Zimbabwe, Lake Kariba is one of the world’s largest man-made lakes, stretching 140 miles long, and 20 miles wide. In the 50 years since its construction, the shoreline and “drowned forests” have adapted to support healthy populations of the mammals found in the Zambezi Valley: large herds of buffalo, lions, leopards, hyenas, and a small, but important, population of black rhinoceros can all be found here. Birdlife is especially well-represented, with over 350 species recorded in the 338,000 acre Matusadona National Park, on the shores of the lake. Expansive clear lake water views, rugged mountains, springs, streams, and mopane scrublands all combine to create a sanctuary for wildlife and visitors alike, and offer a host of activities from game drives to fishing, boating, bird watching and game walks.
