The Capital of the Garden Route

Halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth South Africa’s sixth oldest city, George, named for England’s King George III. While this part of South Africa is not really considered a safari area, George puts you in position to explore the flora of Garden Route, where you will find great marine life and birds along the way, as well as some lesser-visited national parks that protect several unique habitats. Tstisikamma National Park is home to giant Outeniqua yellow-wood trees, ferns, rugged coastline, and colorful birds such as the Knysna lourie. There are also small coastal towns along the way such as Knysna, known for its oysters, and Plettenberg Bay, with its beautiful beaches. If you like multi-day hikes you must walk the Otter Trail and, for golfers, the Fancourt Hotel has three of South Africa's best courses designed by Gary Player - Montagu, Outeniqua and The Links. Come during July to October and be treated to the famed floral abundance for which the Garden Route is famous.
