      Zarafa Dhow Suite

The Zarafa Dhow Suites in Linyanti Private Reserve, Botswana

Zarafa Dhow Suite is located in the 320,000-acre Selinda Reserve, and embodies authenticity, luxury and simplicity. The camp has been clearly considered and thoughtfully planned to be as environmentally sensitive as possible. Zarafa sits on an island in the floodplains of southern shores of the Zibadianja Lagoon, which is the source of the Savute Channel. Positioned in the extreme eastern side of the Selinda Reserve, its location is in prime wildlife territory. The Selinda Reserve’s wide range of habitats makes for year-round wildlife viewing. The seasonal influx of large populations of elephant and buffalo is legendary and the steady predator populations make for remarkable interactions. Couple this with the stunning landscapes and utterly peaceful surrounds and it’s a recipe for bliss. Set just a short distance from Main Camp, yet operating entirely separately, are the magnificent Dhow Suites. Keeping with the theme of early exploration but with an East African coastal style, the Dhow Suites are designed for those seeking an exclusive villa experience. The Suites’ main area spreads over two levels, with a main pool deck below the upper dining and fire deck. The camp is hosted by a private staff and guide and welcomes private groups of up to five (assuming children share with parents). The camp operates ‘green’ and yet by luxury standards. Each suite comes with its own Canon professional camera including a Canon 40D body and 35-135 mm and 100-400mm zoom lenses for use during your stay. Photos are then burned to a DVD as a souvenir at the end of your stay. As is expected in a reserve of this size, wildlife varies from area to area in response to changes in vegetation and hydrology. Zarafa has impressive pods of hippo and crocodiles that are a regular sighting. Water birds abound with frequent sightings of the amusing Black egret and stately Saddle-billed stork. Pied kingfishers dive for small fish while African fisheagles call in the distance. You will also view resident prides of lion and huge herds of elephant and packs of wild dog. The Toyota Land Cruisers used for day and night game drives have been specially designed. The thoughtful engineering provides all-round visibility with removable canvas roofs, and comfortable bucket seats. These rugged, 4X4 vehicles provide access to all of the Selinda Reserve's diverse ecosystems, and do so with ease. Guided walks (which should be confirmed in advance) and pontoon boat rides are other modes of exploring the area and viewing game. Fishing is available seasonally. Massages can be arranged at an additional charge.
