      Swakopmund Hotel

Between the Desert and the Ocean

Enclosed by the ever-changing restless movement of the dunes of the Namib Desert on the east and the pounding waves and beaches of the Atlantic Ocean to the west, lies the historic town of Swakopmund, gateway to the Skeleton Coast. The Swakopmund Hotel has been designed to complement the architecture of the historic (1902) station building which today forms part of the hotel’s public areas. The hotel offers the perfect balance between charming, old-world tradition and the thrill and excitement of modern day entertainment. The 90 rooms offer 24-hour room service, television, and wireless internet connectivity. The hotel also offers a swimming pool, gym and wellness center. There are conference facilities available, valet service, and foreign exchange. The 160-seat Victorian-style restaurant has been carefully designed to take you back to the old-world charm of a bygone era. Choose between a gourmet à la carte menu or renowned specialty buffet spread. Sit back and relax as the sumptuous aromas and flavors wash over you, and be treated like royalty by attentive and experienced hospitality staff. Swakopmund is a beach resort and an excellently preserved example of German colonial architecture. It was founded in 1892 as the main harbor for German South-West Africa. It is one of the few places anywhere outside of Europe where a sizable minority of the population speaks German and has German roots. Attractions in Swakopmund include a transport museum, the National Marine Aquarium, a crystal gallery and spectacular sand dunes near Langstrand, south of the Swakop River. Outside of the city, the Rossmund Desert Golf Course is one of only five all-grass desert golf courses in the world. The city is also known for extreme sports. Nearby lies a camel farm and the Martin Luther steam locomotive, dating from 1896 and abandoned in the desert. Surrounded by the Namib Desert on three sides and the cold Atlantic waters to the west, Swakopmund enjoys a temperate climate.
