Engaged in the Samburu Community in Kenya

Sasaab is situated in Westgate Community Conservancy of Ngutuk Ongiron Group Ranch (NOGR), in the Northern Frontier District of Kenya. The conservancy was established in 2004. It borders Samburu National Reserve to its southeast, Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy to its east and Namunyak Wildlife Conservation Trust to the north. Sasaab is situated in a culturally rich area offering an exciting mixture of Samburu life. Sasaab is a sensational and stylish lodge set in a wild landscape, among the culturally proud and fascinating Samburu tribe. It offers an experience of rare and endangered wildlife enhanced by scenic views of the EwasoNyiro river- Kenya’s third largest water course. Set on half mile of hillside, the lodge provides privacy and harmony with the environment. The nine distinctive rooms have Egyptian cotton sheets on four-poster beds and invigorating showers in spacious bathrooms. Each room is over 1000 sq. ft. in size and extends out to the verandah and private plunge pool with views overlooking the river and wildlife below. With meals made from the freshest ingredients from the vegetable garden, Sasaab camp is able to accommodate special dietary needs. The chefs will prepare a delicious breakfast or lunch on the deck. Nothing can compare to the simple comfort of sitting out under the stars as you enjoy your evening meal while you take in the sounds and scent of the wild. Encounter a variety of wildlife on day or night game drives. Discover lions, leopards and cheetahs or the Samburu Special Five (Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk and Somali ostrich). Trips to local Samburu markets on Wednesdays and Thursdays are a highlight of a visit to Sasaab. These markets offer guests an opportunity to see the art and beauty of the Samburu culture through their jewelry and attire. Children are welcome at Sasaab Camp and there is plenty for them to do. They can learn to make traditional Samburu bows and arrows, toothbrushes from trees and enjoy grilled marshmallows. Children can create their own souvenirs of their Sasaab Samburu adventure by taking home a plaster cast of a wild animal track or hand carving their own traditional Samburu weapons.
