      Royal Madikwe

Big Five Game Viewing in the Malaria Free Madikwe National Reserve, South Africa

Along the Marico River lies a piece of Eden, where the animal kingdom lives united, against the uncontested authority of the Big 5, where the horizon is immortalized by the palette of the sun and Africa draws her breath. Heralded as the boutique reserve in South Africa, the 190,000-acre Madikwe National Reserve is easily accessed malaria-free bushveld. A landmark in modern conservation and community development, this is the setting for Africa’s biggest translocation of wild game including endangered species such as wild dog and cheetah. The massive reserve is a joint venture between the state, the community and the private sector, which has breathed new life into a beautiful but economically depressed region. The Madikwe Reserve is now a thriving refuge for the most precious sustainable resource in Africa, its flora and fauna. Royal Madikwe accommodates a maximum of ten guests in four luxury suites. The same contrast of natural tones against a unique fusion of modern and comfortable furnishings is integrated in four open-style suites, each with its own distinct setting and complete privacy. Guests can enjoy the exclusivity of a private pool, game viewing deck, spacious interiors, fireplace, en-suite bathroom and inside and outside shower. Ancient leadwood and marula trees fuse in a celebration of contemporary design to create the Royal Clubhouse where a stylish lounge, dining room and library lead to elevated decks and sweeping views of the African bush. A tranquil infinity pool gives way to a vivid green palette of lush surroundings which blend in with the lodge’s rustic charm. The lodge also offers an African gift shop, clubhouse, wine cellar, indoor and outdoor bar, boma, viewing deck with gprs telescope, TV lounge with extensive DVD library, play room, main pool & a variety of other elevated decks, all overlooking our well frequented water hole. Early morning and sunset game drives in an open vehicle, led by an experienced ranger and tracker, are highly recommended to explore the superstars of the African bush. Guided bush walks provide the ultimate experience to get up close and personal with Mother Nature while appreciating the opulence of the bush in the footsteps of the animals. In addition to exceptional game drives and walks, other leisure activities are also offered at Royal Madikwe: celestial safari, guided photographic safari, ranger skills training, traditional African dancing lessons, pampering outdoor massage treatments to rejuvenate mind, body and soul. (Notice prior to arrival is requested for these activities.)
