      Puku Ridge Camp

Your Window into the South Luangwa Wilderness

Perched on an escarpment overlooking a floodplain in the South Luangwa National Park, Sanctuary Puku Ridge Camp offers stunning vistas with perfect game sighting opportunities. Lions, leopards, elephants and zebra can frequently be seen. The camp has been constructed to blend into the local surroundings and designed to leave the lowest possible carbon footprint. Each of the seven safari tents has picture windows and its own viewing deck overlooking the plains where game amble across for a drink of water. Generous and comfortable, each tent has an en-suite bathroom with bathtub and shower, as well as an outdoor shower shaded by forest, all stocked with environmentally friendly products for your pure indulgence. Watch the sunrise from your double bed, see elephants bathing from the comfort of your bathtub, perhaps even get a glimpse of wild dogs making their way across the plains in pursuit of prey from your private viewing deck. In between game activities, afternoons are spent relaxing in the camp's large living area. Listen out for the Puku antelope whistling to one other when there is danger in the air. When evening arrives, make your way to the central dining area for a delectable gourmet meal in the bush, or order dinner on your own private deck for a romantic night under the stars. The South Luangwa is home of the walking safari and it remains the best way to experience the sights and sounds of the bush. Experienced guides love showing guests the indicators of the wild, 'rewinding' the action of the last few hours from just a few small give-away signs. See where an elephant stopped to browse, where a leopard scratched a tree or a pangolin rolled into a ball. There's nothing like seeing lion tracks or the giant footprint of an elephant to make guests relish the comforts of camp. The area is home to 60 mammals and over 400 bird species, making it one of the top birding destinations in the world. For big game, guests really need a vehicle to get up close and here in the South Luangwa, travelers have the privilege of going on game drives at night. Guests are always amazed how much can be seen when they go down to the river for sundowner cocktails before leisurely driving back to camp. Guests often see hyena and leopard in the early evenings and are able to get very close in specially designed 4 x 4 vehicles. On the open plains below the camp there are always grazing herds of antelope and of course they attract the predators that every guest wants to see.
