      Okonjima's Luxury Bush Camp

Thatched African Chalets in the Mountains

West of the Waterberg Plateau, the vast plains are occasionally broken by the remnants of ancient sandstone outcrops, which once covered large areas of northern Namibia. Nestled among the Omboroko Mountains lies Okonjima – a Herero name meaning Place of the Baboons. Okonjima Bush Camp is situated at the edge of a wilderness area, two miles from Okonjima Main Camp. Bush Camp is comprised of eight thatched, African-style chalets, one luxury honeymoon suite, with fireplace, bath and outside ‘bush-shower’ (wheelchair friendly), lapa in the form of the indigenous ‘camelthorn’ pod and a secluded swimming pool. Each exclusive chalet enjoys complete privacy, and is a unique combination of earthy ochre walls and khaki-green canvas, under a thatched roof. Each chalet is equipped with queen and a ¾ bed, a mini-bar, a private safe for valuables, a kettle for that early morning cup of tea or coffee and a telephone. The honeymoon suite boasts two double beds, a bathtub, an out-side shower and a fireplace. All chalets are between 80m – 100m apart from each other. For those who wish to feel the closeness of nature, the front 180º of canvas paneling may be rolled up, inviting visitors to enjoy their own bushveld vista. AfriCat is a non-profit organization set up to conserve and protect threatened leopard, and other wild carnivores of Namibia. Visitors will be able to observe some of this program at work and learn more about these amazing and beautiful animals. Game drives and guided bush walks offer visitors an intimate, up-close perspective of Namibia’s wildlife. Or, experience a day in the life of a Bushman. Guests get to learn about the art of making traditional artifacts and how the San adapt and survive in an unforgiving wilderness environment.
