      Okahirongo River Camp

An Oasis of Civility and Tranquility in the Wild Desert

Tucked far into the northwestern reaches of Namibia, the Marienfluss region is a remote wilderness area where the rough roads and lack of facilities keep travelers at bay. The Skeleton Coast Park borders the area in the west and the Kunene River, known to be rife with crocodiles, bisects the area in the north. Okahirongo River Camp is an eco-friendly lodge built on a sweeping ridge and opening up to breathtaking views of the Kunene River. The central area, constructed above the rapids, comprises two lounges, a library and dining room, decked out in African elegance. The turquoise waters of the swimming pool spell out refreshment from the desert heat and the spacious sundeck invites sunbathing or simply delighting in the exotic grandeur of the natural surroundings. Excellent Service, delicious African-Italian cuisine and exquisite South African wines will round out your stay and make Okahirongo River Camp a most memorable safari experience. Cleverly built into the rocky terrain, the four luxurious double tents, one twin tent and one family suite are constructed with wood and canvas and each have a magnificent view of their own. The interiors have been furnished with a minimalist African chic. Lavish four-poster beds, splendid indoor and outdoor showers and spacious decks guarantee utmost comfort and the exclusive feeling of being at one with nature. Fall asleep to the sound of the rushing river below – the perfect African lullaby. Explore the magical surroundings on an early morning walk or a scenic drive into the mountains or golden sand dunes complete with unforgettable sundowners. The wonders of the Kunene River will provide plenty of entertainment, be it fishing (conventionally and fly fishing), cruising along the river in awe of the rich birdlife or be on the lookout for some mighty crocodiles. Get some exercise by hiking along the river and marvel at the unspoiled flora and fauna of the unique terrain. Visit a traditional Himba village, where you will find an authentic experience, as the semi-nomadic local tribe has not been spoiled by tourism, due to the remoteness of the area.
