Nduara Loliondo (Southern, Dec - Mid April)

      The Yurt Migration

Loliondo has never simply been about 'just more Serengeti'. It's a tented camp with a difference; one that reflects the space and freedom that define the area. The Meru tents do just that. With wide panoramic windows, the interiors of the tents are light and airy, while the sheepskin hot water bottles and piping hot safari showers keep you warm in even the crispest of highland mornings. Each of the tents has its own spacious en-suite bathroom with water, heated in firewood boilers, brought on demand. And like the Maasai, Nduara Loliondo is nomadic; every six months, the camp is packed up and moved. In Ololosokwan, where you'll find the camp between June and November, the tents sit high on a ridge with commanding views over a broad acacia-lined valley. In the mornings and evenings the sights and sounds of Maasai life permeate the air as cattle move to and from a local manyatta. In Piyaya, to the south, where the camp moves between December and May, the scenery changes dramatically and the yurts sit beneath vast skies on the edge of wide and endless plains. The main mess and dining areas, beside a mature spreading acacia tree, look out over a small vlei (shallow lake). Nduara is somewhere you can be highly active. With walks led by local Maasai morani, picnics, game drives and night drives, all planned with your guide to allow you to take things at your own pace. If you feel like it you can be busy all day. But after a few days in the Serengeti most guests take the opportunity to really kick back here. Nduara lends itself to lazy mornings, relaxed lunches, or time just sitting and reading. And after a while, the rhythm of life, the comings and goings of cattle, the meal times become deeply seductive and you begin to remember how it feels not to do anything. Nduara Loliondo has only six tents, spread across our patch of the Loliondo plains. The bedroom is wide and breezy, shade net windows around the sides can be raised up or down. There is an adjoining bathroom with eco-flush toilets, safari style bucket showers and hot and cold water on demand. The hub of the camp can be found in either the dining tent, or the library/chill out tent, set side by side in the middle of the camp. In Loliondo, because you're outside of the boundaries of the National Park, there is the freedom to walk, game drive in 4WD vehicles on and off road, have picnic lunches out in the bush, stay out for sundowners on rocks with beautiful views.
