      Mombo Trails Camp

      A Place of Plenty

Mombo Trails Camp is located 1.25 miles north-west of Mombo Camp, overlooking the very same productive floodplain that has been the backdrop of Mombo for the last 17 years. The grassy expanse attracts a variety of species and provides a spectacular vista from the camp. The Mombo Concession is located on the northern tip of Chief’s Island within the Moremi Game Reserve. The area boasts enormous concentrations of plains game and predators which begin virtually on Mombo’s doorstep, with the surrounding floodplains teeming with game year round. A nostalgic look back at our roots as safari pioneers in Botswana, Mombo Trails Camp is a light-footprint tented camp that has been specially erected to provide accommodation during the rebuild of Mombo and Little Mombo Camps. By respectfully developing this temporary site, Mombo Trails Camp has been created so that it blends in with its environment and can be easily taken away, leaving no scars on the most valuable asset – the concession and the plants and creatures that live here. Eight elegantly furnished and spacious guest tents with en-suite facilities are situated under large, shady trees, a variety of the area’s wildlife often within view. There is a main living and dining area as well as the traditional campfire around which Mombo guests, guides and staff can gather to relive the history of one of our longest-running camps. The main area is comprised of two large tents, one being a dining area and the other a bar and lounge, positioned in the shape of a shallow “V” with the campfire in the center. Both the main area and the tents face the floodplains and are slightly raised on low wooden decks to minimize the impact on the site. Game drives continue to explore the area, yielding all of the wealth of this wildlife-rich area, from herbivore concentrations – especially of red lechwe, plains zebra, giraffe and impala – to one of Africa’s highest density lion populations. Spotted hyaena and leopard are other frequently seen carnivores. You can also enjoy gave viewing from a hide at Hippo Pools (weather permitting) and birding. The Mombo Concession is known as the “place of plenty”, highlighted by the massive concentrations of plains game and predators that can be seen. These include all the big cats, of which lion sightings are frequent. You can also expect to see leopard and cheetah, spotted hyaena, large herds of buffalo, elephant, white rhino, giraffe, blue wildebeest, Burchell's zebra and much more. Birdlife is prolific around Mombo with African jacana, pygmy-geese, goliath heron and migrant waders in summer being particularly common.
