A Luxury Safari Boat on Lake Kariba in Zimababwe

Painstakingly built over a number of years, with all imported materials and finishes, Matusadona is the epitome of luxury on the lake. The luxury motor cruiser is chartered on an exclusive basis for a minimum of 3 nights and is ideally suited for groups of up to 6 guests. You will have your own private captain, chef, steward and deckhand. Mooring is carefully planned daily for reasons of safety and to provide you with tranquil and beautiful overnight mooring spots at the same time. The captain sets off for a new destination daily after brunch, allowing guests to travel the lake and relax during the heat of the day. Once moored (usually between 2:00 - 3:30 pm), guests can enjoy an afternoon activity: fishing, game viewing or a sunset cruise. The average 3½ engine hours per day will allow the vessel to cover large distances daily, so steering away from the majority of other vessels on the lake to find that special peace and tranquility of Lake Kariba. Zimbabwe’s Lake Kariba is famous for its overwhelming sunsets, wildlife viewing and tiger fishing. With the lapping of waves, grunts of hippos, the distant lion’s roar and the eerie cry of the fish eagle, you are in the real bush while cocooned in the lap of luxury. The Matusadona National Park provides the beautiful landscape surrounding the lake. There are 3 en‐suite guest cabins with queen-size beds located on the lower deck. The middle deck is comprised of a gourmet galley, the wheelhouse, an al‐fresco breakfast area and an indoor saloon. The indoor saloon offers a dining area and coffee station, a business desk and a lounge complete with DVD player. The spacious open plan outdoor entertainment area on the upper deck offers 360 degree views of Lake Kariba and offers 2 lounge areas, dining area, bar and an open air jacuzzi. Travelling to a different and secluded mooring every day, you will always awaken to a new experience on one of the numerous islands, up one of the rivers, or in the Matusadona National Park. Matusadona does not sail alone; she is accompanied by two tenders for angling, a speed-boat for transfers and, soon to be added to the fleet, a game-viewing pontoon, especially geared for water-based game viewing. A completely different experience to land-based game viewing, watching a herd of elephants coming down to drink, so close you can almost touch them, their calves frolicking in the water with their mothers suspiciously standing by, is a truly memorable experience. From Matusadona, guests can enjoy game viewing by boat, game viewing on land (game drive at Bumi Hills Safari Lodge at additional charge), angling (bream, tiger) and sunset cruises. The saloon deck offers a small library and games cupboard, a TV with DVD player and a sound system suited to guests’ personal iPod and CD’s. Kariba’s prolific birdlife is rivalled only by the Okavango Delta in Botswana. The land around Lake Kariba on the Zimbabwe side is full of big game, such as lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, cheetahs, impalas, kudus, and elands.
