      Manyara Ranch

      A Maasai Conservation Program

Manyara Ranch Conservancy is an enterprise operating in partnership with the Maasai communities, the Tanzania Land Conservation Trust and the African Wildlife Foundation. The conservancy exists to protect the migration corridors that run between Lake Natron, Ngorongoro, Manyara, Tarangire and the Maasailands to the south. Lake Manyara National Park is a 40-minute drive from Manyara Ranch. The lake covers two-thirds of the area of this small park which offers impressive variety. Elephants, blue monkeys, baboons, hippos, tree climbing lions as well as numerous birds can be found. Tarangire National Park is situated 30 minutes from the conservancy. It is renowned for its diverse bird population, large herds of elephant and majestic baobab trees. The density of game is second only to the Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro Crater, found a 1.5 hour drive from the Conservancy, has a permanent population of more than 30,000 animals. Resident game includes large herds of resident wildebeest, highly endangered black rhinos, lions, nomadic cheetahs, leopards, golden and black-backed jackals, servals, spotted hyenas, buffalo, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle. Unmatched for its natural variety, there are few places on earth where such a tremendous diversity of landscapes exist inside a region this size. Manyara Ranch Conservancy includes six deluxe tented guest accommodations with en-suite bathrooms including flush toilets and hot / cold running water. A spacious and comfortable interior boasts decorative area rugs, king-sized bed, writing desk and private verandah. Tents are well spaced to ensure privacy. As the electricity is generator-powered, a charging station can be found in the central area. The dining is available both inside the dining tent and outside as well. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks around the fire, re-telling the events of the day. Offering a superb wilderness area with excellent cultural elements, the 35,000 acre conservancy provides guided walks, day and night drives, 4x4 safari excursions to nearby parks, visits to local villages and activities such as horseback riding and participating in conservation projects with the African Wildlife Foundation.
