      Macatoo Camp

High Adventure Riding in the Okavango Delta

Macatoo Camp is situated on the western side of the Okavango Delta. Covering 17,000 km sq, the Okavango is the largest inland delta in the world, a mix of labyrinth channels, palm-fringed islands and fertile floodplains. Trapped in the parched sands of the Kalahari Desert, it is a magnet for the wildlife who depend on the delta's life giving waters. More than 400 species of resident and migrant birds, lions, elephants, hyenas, wild dogs, buffalo, hippo and crocodiles congregate with a variety of antelope and smaller animals - warthogs, mongooses, genets, monkeys and bush babies to name a few. The camp features seven large, comfortable twin-bedded tents, each with its own en-suite shower and loo, and sleeps a maximum of fourteen guests. Centrally there is a large furnished mess tent and, tucked away, a private pool. Depending on the weather, longer safaris may include a ride out to a mobile fly camp, with traditional bucket shower and loo. Macatoo Camp is open all year round. Riding groups will normally be no more than seven guests. Riders should be aged 12 and older, and weigh less than 210 lbs. Over this you will need to enquire, but only if you are an advanced rider. Anyone over 70 needs to be riding fit and strong. Four to six hours per day are spent in the saddle, and you should be confident of your ability at all paces. The rides cannot take beginners. Non-riding spouses/partners and children can enjoy the many alternative activities on offer including game drives, seasonal boating, mokoro (canoes) and fishing.
