      Luangwa River Camp

Where the Giraffe Come for a Drink

Luangua River Camp is situated just six miles north of Mfuwe on the river which borders the South Luangwa National Park. South Luangwa National Park, the southernmost of three national parks in the valley of the Luangwa River, is a world-renowned wildlife haven. It supports large populations of Thornicroft's Giraffe, and herds of elephant and buffalo often several hundred strong, while the Luangwa River supports abundant crocodiles and hippopotamus. It is one of the best-known national parks in Africa for walking safaris. The camp’s gentle but exquisite décor fuses vibrant earth tones and raw materials. Palm stalks, indigenous timber, thatch and red earthen plaster create a strikingly elegant yet warm atmosphere. The camp is unique, with its décor and great attention to detail making Luangwa River Camp quite like nothing else currently in South Luangwa or Zambia. The camp is elevated between 3-9 feet on wooden decks affording great views to the park and river. The five brick-and-thatch bush suites are individually named and all feature unique decorative themes. The suites can accommodate either a double bed or twin beds and contain hot and cold running water, twin sinks, shower, and a sunken bath (large enough for two people). The suites feature overhead fans in both the bedroom and bathroom, walk-in mosquito nets as well as a sealed mosquito proof room (as long as the doors are kept shut!).. All bush suites have 240v plug sockets and hairdryers, large, free-standing fans inside the mosquito nets and 110v converters are provided. Wardrobe and vanity table with rechargeable electric lanterns, candles and matches provided. Luangwa River Camp offers a myriad of activities to enhance your safari. These include walking safaris, as well as driving and riverboat safari trips (depending on the water level of the Luangwa River). Visits to local cultural sites of interest can also be arranged. The swimming pool is sunk into the deck on two levels with a waterfall adjoining the two pools. Seating areas are all elevated and open plan with a bar area as well as a dining and reading area.
