      Little Vumbura

In the Shade of the Delta Forest

Little Vumbura Camp is an intimate escape on a picturesque island in a private concession of the Kwedi Reserve, located in the extreme north of the Okavango Delta. This classic safari camp is surrounded by the floodplains and deep, clear channels for which the Okavango Delta is so famed. Little Vumbura Camp is a beautiful six-room tented camp shaded by the canopy of an ancient Okavango Delta forest. Each tent is large and roomy with both indoor and outdoor reading areas, en-suite facilities and canvas window covers, which can remain open to give an unobstructed view of the delta large. A plunge pool overlooks the floodplains and a star deck leads off the dining area. Surrounded by water and lying close to large rivers, Little Vumbura Camp focuses on water-based activities, with mokoros (canoes) traversing the floodplains under the guidance of experienced polers. Motor boats also make their way up and down the permanent channels. Game drives in open Land Rovers allow guests to get close to animals in the savannah areas. Walks around the islands, available on request, are an opportunity to enjoy Africa from a different perspective. Game viewing is consistently good throughout the year at Little Vumbura Camp with extensive plains game providing an excellent wildlife experience in this remote corner of the Okavango Delta. The annually flooded grasslands surrounding Little Vumbura Camp offer seasonal viewing of elephants, giraffe, buffalo, impala, sable antelope, kudu, zebra, common waterbucks and reedbucks, tsessebe, wildebeest, red lechwe and Cape buffalo. Encounters with hippos and crocodiles are common in the waterways. Predators include African wild dogs, several resident prides of lions, leopards, cheetahs and African wildcats. Additionally, the birding around Little Vumbura Camp is as varied as it is exceptional all year.

        Off-Road Game Viewing

In national parks and some other reserves, rules prohibit leaving the designated safari paths. But the wildlife are not always considerate enough to stay nearby. Get better vantages (and better photos) by heading off-road.
