      Ibo Island Lodge

Historic Mansion Luxury in a Tranquil Island Setting

Ibo Island has been described as one of the most unique and magical islands in the world and is the perfect place to explore the beaches and beauty of the Quirimbas Archipelago and National Park in Northern Mozambique. Nominated for World Heritage status, Ibo is an island that is still remote and relatively untouched by large scale commercial developments, and is one of the most fascinating, idyllic islands you could dream of visiting. Ibo Island Lodge is comprised of three historic and magnificent mansions, each over one hundred and fifty years old. All have been lovingly restored to their former glory and make up this Mozambique Hotel. Set amongst lush gardens planted with frangipani, bougainvillea and palm trees, the heart of Ibo Island Lodge is upstairs on the Bela Vista roof deck restaurant where guests sip sundowners and after dinner drinks under spectacular stars. The restaurant faces west for unbelievable sunsets and the Lodge’s talented chefs are renowned for their award-winning menus and fresh seafood, usually accompanied by tropical orange sunsets and dreamy views over the bay. The 14 en-suite rooms have air-conditioning and ceiling fans to keep things cool in the balmy tropical weather. Each room is individually designed and features elegant pillars, coral and lime walls, lofty tall ceilings and solid teak beams, wide verandas and large 4-poster beds. Morning tea and coffee is brought to the rooms as well as ice water flasks at turn down. Ibo Island Lodge offers some of the broadest range of experiences in Mozambique set in an undeniably unique and tranquil island atmosphere. The flexibility of guest activities is what makes Ibo Island Lodge renowned. One day guests can be active and exploring with a wide range of guided land and marine experiences, and the next they can relax island style, with a massage and have a lazy day at the beach. It is the perfect island mix for guests wanting an authentic experience that transcends the typical beach holiday. It suits romantics, families and special interest groups alike. These activities are included in the accommodation cost: The Sand Bank Beach Experience, a motorized or sailing dhow excursion; The Ibo of yesterday Guided Historical Experience, a guided walking journey throughout Ibo Islands Stone Town and important historical buildings; Ibo of Today Guided Experience. a chance to interact with the charismatic people of Ibo and a visit to the Island Preschool Project.
