      Grande Roche Hotel

Historic Elegance in a Vineyard Setting

The Grande Roche Hotel is situated on the site of the historic De Nieuwe Plantatie farm in the quaint town of Paarl, Drakenstein Valley, Cape Winelands, South Africa. Nestled at the foot of the magnificent Paarl Rock is a small luxury hotel like no other. It is a place where history interacts with modern comforts...where the atmosphere of a bygone era brings a sense of gracious, unhurried living. The essence of the Grande Roche Hotel experience lies in the unique, individually named suites spread over landscaped gardens in the midst of a working wine farm with its inimitable style and unsurpassed excellence in service. From the moment you arrive, you are warmly greeted, offered a welcome drink and escorted to your suite through the beautiful gardens. The four studio suites are situated in the charmingly restored coach and carriage houses of the historic estate. They contain a spacious lounge/bedroom and each has its own semi-private garden terrace with a magnificent view of the majestic Drakenstein mountains. One of the rooms is fully equipped for disabled guests. The hotel has transformed the old slave quarters on the estate into five duplex suites, with names that reflect their Dutch colonial past: Java, Jasmijn, Batavia, Malabaar and Koljanner. The ground floor of each suite has a spacious lounge, where extra beds can be made up to accommodate families. Upstairs the large bedroom boasts twin or king bed configuration with views across the gardens. The 18 terrace suites are in groups of 3, scattered around the estate. All are built in the original Cape colonial style, with thatched roofs, shutters and trailing vines over the private outdoor terrace. Whether you are relaxing in the lounge or enjoying a lazy morning in the bedroom, the view from each room is spectacular. Imagine looking out on the mellow mists of autumn or the bright green vines flanked by roses in the summer; this is the place to be whatever the season. The garden suite was once the original farm stable. A combination of luxury, romance and rustic charm, this is a totally private suite. It has a lounge, bedroom with king-sized bed, bathroom with double shower and Jacuzzi, private sun terrace and separate enclosed patio. All rooms offer flowers, wine and mineral water on arrival, individually controlled air conditioning, under-floor heating, luxury bathroom amenities, digital telephones and satellite television. Terrace and garden suites have TV's & DVD players in the lounge, an electronic safe, a fully stocked mini bar fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers, umbrellas and turndown service with mineral water and chocolate.
