The Base for Incredible Walking Safaris

Its position alongside the Galana River makes Galdessa ideal for game drives and wildlife sightings. The game drive vehicles will take you to discover the river frontage and its seasonal tributaries. As they often have permanent pools, the tributaries are favorite haunts of lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo and rhinos. Tsavo East National Park is known as walking country and Galdessa Camp is renowned for its walking safaris. Guests can enjoy discovering the diversity of the park on foot and have intimate encounters with the wildlife that frequents the area, including serval cats, gennets, Masai giraffe, waterbuck, impala, lesser kudu, Perter’s gazelle, dik dik, zebra, fringe-eared oryx, eland mongooses and monitor lizards. Tsavo is particularly rich in birdlife, with birds migrating from as far as Oman, Malawi, Iran, Germany and Russia. Galdessa works closely with Kenya Wildlife Service’s black rhino re-introduction project. Within Galdessa’s vicinity there are 51 black rhino; Africa’s largest unfenced black rhino population. The camp has been built with great care not to adversely impact the environment: it recycles its waste, uses solar power for electricity and has installed a water treatment plant. The camp has its own lounge and dining room where guests enjoy hearty meals and can relax during their free time from activities. Galdessa features 12 comfortable and spacious thatched and semi-tented bungalows on wooden platforms, each with an en-suite bathroom and private veranda. Guests are ensured their privacy as all of the bungalows are situated a good distance apart and natural foliage is used to subtly conceal neighboring bandas. The bathrooms are large and have traditional bucket showers, flush toilets and basins with running water. The honeymoon bungalow has an elevated platform with sofa, table and chairs - one of the most romantic spots in Kenya to relax under the stars surrounded by wildlife. The camp’s activities include game drives in open vehicles; walking safaris along the Galana River and sand rivers; sundowners and bush breakfasts.
