      Fumba Beach Lodge

      An Area of Outstanding Beauty

For a thousand years, Zanzibar was one of the world’s crossroads of trade, with Persians, Arabs and Europeans attracted to its exotic exports. Zanzibar’s history can be seen within the cuisine and décor of the island’s accommodations. South of Stone Town is the Fumba Peninsula and the Menai Bay Conservation Area. Fumba Peninsula, designated by the World Wildlife Federation as an area of outstanding natural beauty, is both a large marine haven and an eco-project. This is one of Zanzibar’s most luxurious and peaceful hideaways. In 2005, the Fumba Beach Lodge, complete with 40 acres of private land, including three lovely sandy coves, opened on this corner of the island. Fumba is situated on a yellow-sand beach, dotted with exposed coral rock. The beautiful clear turquoise waters and its location on the southwest side of Zanzibar allows for spectacular sunsets. Fumba Beach Lodge offers well-designed elegance, with friendly first-class service. Located approximately a 30-minute drive from Stone Town, the lodge is a perfect venue for enjoying tranquility. There are ample opportunities to experience a range of environments, such as gardens, tropical forests, and secluded protected beaches. The lodge consists of 26 spacious en-suite rooms, with cool white-washed walls and polished stone floors. Huge, louvered sliding doors open up onto a private patio with lounge chairs – the perfect place to relax in peace and quiet. Inside is a canopied king-size bed with a huge mosquito net, adorned with brightly-colored throws made from kikoi material. Each room has a fan, as well as plenty of space for hanging clothes in an open wardrobe. The wardrobe also contains a safe and lock box. The en-suite bathroom has polished stone floors and brightly painted walls, giving it a warm feel. There is a hot-and-cold shower, sink and toilet. Meals at Fumba Beach Lodge are created from the produce of the lodge’s fruit and vegetable garden, fresh seafood delivered on a daily basis and local spices for which Zanzibar is renowned. Water and adventure activities, day trips and touring of Stone Town, the Jozani Forest, or Prison Island and the Spice Tours can be arranged at a supplementary cost. Please advise if you are interested in additional activities and we will confirm availability and pricing.
