      Duba Plains Camp

Front Row Seats to Lion vs. Buffalo - Opens March 2017

Duba Plains Camp is a classic tented camp located in one of the most isolated regions of the Okavango Delta, known locally as the Kwedi Reserve. This private 30,000 hectare (approximately 74,100 acres) concession is known for its epic battles between lions and buffaloes. The camp is surrounded by a wide variety of landscapes: from vast open floodplains and grasslands, which are often isolated from the mainland by deep waterways, to dense mopane bushveld (woodland) and savanna. The intimate camp consists of five traditional-style tents. There is also a separate two-bedroom Duba Plains Suite available for guests. All tents are on raised decking, with views of the surrounding floodplain and a steady stream of wildlife parading past. Each tent has a lounge area, with a place to write and download photos, as well as the opportunity for private dining in your tent. Each has a private veranda plus beautifully appointed en-suite facilities consisting of flush toilets, double basins and indoor and outdoor showers and luxurious baths. Ceiling fans and careful design maintain a comfortable climate for rest and relaxation. Guests can enjoy their own private plunge pool and outdoor, covered sala/day rest area. The main areas consist of a large raised dining room, and comfortable lounge with private dining areas, wine cellar and library, with ample space for guests to either get away and be private or be all together if they prefer. The camp’s center-point is the gathering place of all bush experiences: the fire place on an extended deck into the swamp. Guests staying at the Duba Plains Suite automatically enjoy the services of a private game drive vehicle with their own guide as well as a private butler and chef. Duba Plains prides itself on its extraordinary wildlife experiences and intimate up-close exposure to the best of the best wildlife, from lions and leopards to elephants and buffalo and everything in between. Duba Plains is also known for interesting Kalahari species like aardwolf and pangolins. Both day and night game drives take place in some of Botswana’s best adapted vehicles, which seat only four to six guests and are fully stocked with drinks and snacks. Because the focus is on photographic safaris each tent has the latest Canon camera and lenses as a package for guests to use or try out. Images are downloaded and presented for them to take away at no additional charge. While game drives generally take place in the most comfortable times of day (early to mid-morning and late afternoon to evening), it is very common in Duba Plains to spend full days out in the field, with brunch delivered to the vehicles because the wildlife sighting is so good. The guides are also keen walking trackers and mokoro (canoe) specialists as well as birders and as such guests are encouraged to experience everything the camp has to offer.
