      Duba Plains

Front Row Seats to Lion vs. Buffalo

Duba Plains Camp is a classic tented camp located in one of the most isolated regions of the Okavango Delta, known locally as the Kwedi Reserve. This private 30,000 hectare (approximately 74,100 acres) concession is known for the titanic struggle for survival between lion and buffalo. Situated on one of the low, sandy islands common to this region, Duba Plains Camp is surrounded by a wide variety of landscapes. From vast open floodplains and grasslands, which are often isolated from the mainland by deep waterways, to dense mopane bushveld (woodland) and savannah, Duba Plains Camp offers guests spectacular game viewing and birding all year. Duba Plains Camp provides an intimate atmosphere consisting of six roomy tents with en-suite bathrooms, outside showers and verandas with panoramic vistas of the Okavango Delta floodplains. Pathways link the tents to the main areas including the thatched lounge, dining, bar areas and pool. All of which are raised on wooden platforms to better appreciate the breathtaking views. Duba Plains Camp offers a variety of included activities such as day and night game drives and leisurely nature walks. Boat cruises are dependent on the seasonal water levels in the Duba area. A luxury African safari at Duba Plains Camp starts by tracking down one of the enormous buffalo herds to see whether the lions are on the prowl. But Duba Plains Camp has more to offer than just lions and buffalo, with herds of elephants feeding on the islands and hippos wading out into the deeper channels. Tsessebe and blue wildebeest dot the plains, while red lechwe are found on the fringe of the wetter floodplains. Aardwolf sightings are one of the specialties of Duba Plains Camp, along with the occasional glimpse of a caracal. Red lechwe, elephants, tsessebe and warthogs share this savannah landscape and hippos concentrate in the deeper channels. The area often has productive spotted hyena dens that offer unique hyena pup viewing, while leopards can be found on the forested islands. Most of the Okavango Delta's renowned bird life can be found around Duba Plains Camp, including the swamp boubou, hartlaub's babbler and swamp nightjar. During the annual flooding the abundance of waterbirds is simply astounding - with a multitude of herons, egrets, lapwings and jacanas on show.
