      Cottar's Camp

Classic Accommodations in the Flow of the Mara

The Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp is situated in an exclusive concession between the Masai Mara, Serengeti and Loliondo reserves where a few Purko Maasai clans roam. This area has been untouched by any kind of tourism or development and offers the discerning client a guarantee of privacy. The Masai Mara is a unique area with a constant and unrivalled flow of wildlife throughout the year. From July to October the Mara becomes a backdrop for one of the last great natural wonders of the world, when 1.5 million wildebeest and zebra surge up from the Serengeti plains in their annual search for the seasonal grasses that sustain them. The spectacle as the vast herds cross rivers and sweep through the golden grasses, is punctuated by individual struggles with the predators, which are in turn drawn to take their part in this dramatic event. While the migration is spectacular, game viewing at all other times of the year remains almost unrivalled anywhere in Africa. Cottar’s Camp accommodates guests in ten luxury tents – six of our original honeymoon suites with ensuite bathrooms and four luxury suites with double bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms, all authentic white canvas tents, spacious and luxuriously furnished with original safari antiques from the '20s; private ensuite dressing rooms and bathrooms (with old-fashioned showers and flushing toilets). Guest activities include day and night game drives and guided bush walks. Our guides utilize either state of the art modern four-wheel-drive cars on game drives or our authentic vintage wooden car for fun and atmosphere. As the concession is outside the game parks, guided walks and night drives are allowed and highly recommended. By walking, guests can get that much closer to nature, and if an opportunity to track wild game presents itself, the trained trackers will take guests even closer still. A masseuse is based full-time at the camp for complimentary massages (one per person, per stay), manicures and pedicures
