      Chobe Chilwero

The Place of the High View

Chobe Chilwero borders Chobe National Park, home to the world's largest population of elephants. A great deal of thought has gone into making Chobe Chilwero a luxurious riverside retreat in the heart of the bush, with all of the amenities of a larger resort. Chilwero means “place of high view” in the local language of Setswana. Each of Chobe Chilwero’s 15 cottages measures 61 square meters (approximately 540 square feet) and has its own en-suite bathroom with a modern bath, indoor and outdoor showers, private garden with hammock, private balcony, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, hairdryer, mini-bar as well as an in-room safe. The main public area includes a lounge and dining room, which are linked to outdoor viewing patios. The wine cellar is temperature controlled and houses a large variety of South African wines. The lodge also boasts a split-level swimming pool, library, curio shop and a communications center, which offers telephone, fax and internet access. Chobe Chilwero also provides luxurious facilities in a full-service spa. Game drives and sunset cruises bring extraordinary wildlife viewing. Elephants feature largely on any activity at Chobe Chilwero, as the largest population left in Africa occupies this northern corner between Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Game drives in open-sided 4 x 4 vehicles bring these grey giants into easy reach as they drink and frolic at the water’s edge in their boisterous herds. Thrilling game drives lead by qualified professional guides bring guests close to hippos, buffalo, puku, antelope, lions and other creatures that gather on the banks of the Chobe River. Sundowner cruises are a great way of seeing animals up close as they come out of the shade to graze in the cooler evenings. Specially designed riverboats take guests up close to elephants as they wade in the river or near the buffalo who gather on its shores. Due to the close proximity to Victoria Falls, there are numerous activities available at an additional cost. However it is suggested that these activities be booked prior to your arrival at Chobe Chilwero. Fishing excursions, day trips to Victoria Falls, bungee jumping, river rafting, shopping, touring the Falls, elephant back riding or scenic flights over four countries by helicopter are offered at an additional cost.
