Changa Safari Camp
A Beautiful Blend of Land and Water in Zimbabwe
On the shores of Lake Kariba, with the Matusadona Mountains in view, the proximity to nature and true wilderness is unparalleled. Close to three miles of shoreline on a private concession ensure that this luxurious tented camp becomes a relaxing retreat. As a guest you will enjoy vistas of rugged mountains, springs and streams, woodlands and scrublands, pristine riverine vegetation, crystal clear lake water and grass flanked shoreline. Changa was designed to blend into the environment, built with natural materials, thatched roofs, and wooden decks and walkways. Your tent is outfitted with locally crafted furniture, crisp white linen, en-suite bathroom facilities, hot water, and fans so you feel truly comfortable. Meals are relaxed and laid back, set around a large table in the dining room, on the deck overlooking the lake, or under the stars. A typical day at Changa starts early to coincide with the best times to view animals. The camp offers a continental breakfast on the deck or on the beach before your morning activity. Then, just before it gets too hot, you'll be back in camp for a delicious brunch, allowing you to siesta during the heat of the day. Make yourself at home in the library, enjoy the cool breeze in the lounge, recline by the pool, or relax on a hammock under the trees. Re-charge with 'high-tea' at 3:30 p.m. before you venture out on your chosen afternoon activity. Each day ends with a sundowner on the shore and later a delicious dinner is provided while you discuss tomorrow’s adventures. There are a multitude of included activities to choose from, including boarding the pontoon for birding, fishing, and game viewing. Hippos and crocodiles are abundant and the birdlife is prolific; over 350 species have been identified in the area. With an experienced fishing guide you can try catching Kariba’s famous tiger fish. Zimbabwe is also well-known for its incredible walking safaris and the Matusadona National Park, where Changa Safari Camp is located, is no exception. Take a guided walk with one of Changa’s professional guides and explore the shoreline, the many tributaries and streams that feed the lake, or well-worn elephant trails that take you into the mountain region. Riding in a customized game vehicle you may spot animals such as lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo and antelope. If you are very lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the last remaining black rhinos.

Off-Road Game Viewing
In national parks and some other reserves, rules prohibit leaving the designated safari paths. But the wildlife are not always considerate enough to stay nearby. Get better vantages (and better photos) by heading off-road.
