      Campi ya Kanzi

Privacy in the "Green Hills of Africa"

The Chyulu Hills are one of the most iconic landscapes on the continent: They are the “Green Hills of Africa” that Ernest Hemingway came to again and again and that inspired him to write “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” while camping in the hills and plains, where the view of that famous mountain is supremely beautiful. With wildlife roaming in abundance, massive granite outcroppings rising over rivers and lava flows that cut across the plains and a deep and mysterious cloud forest on the crest of the green hills, this landscape is truly one of the great wilderness experiences anywhere. Campi ya Kanzi was created in 1996 by Luca Belpietro and Antonella Bonomi, who have made it their home ever since. They will be your hosts, with a team of 65 people from the local Maasai community, who help with the guiding, cooking, housekeeping and maintenance. You may choose between two types of accommodation: the classic safari under canvas at Campi ya Kanzi – or the privacy of a villa in the bush at Kanzi House. Campi ya Kanzi accommodates a maximum of 16 guests in six thatched roof luxury tented cottages and in the Hemingway and Simba suites. The tented cottages and the suites are conveniently located, with ample distance from one to the other, to guarantee every guest’s privacy. Each accommodation has a dedicated Maasai attendant. Kanzi House accommodates a maximum of 10 guests, in 3 double rooms and 2 twin rooms. It features a Jacuzzi for four and a 60-foot swimming pool. It is bookable only by a single party at a time. Should you choose to be accommodated at Kanzi House, Samson Parashina, head guide of Campi ya Kanzi and President of the Trust, will be your guide and host. Regardless of which accommodation you will choose, the staff is committed to making your safari experience the most memorable vacation of your life. When you arrive at Campi ya Kanzi, Luca will brief you about the camp and what safari activities can be arranged for you. He will learn from you what your interests are, what your previous African experiences have been and what you like most. With your help, he will tailor-make the perfect safari for you. There are many activities to choose from, including game drives, game walks, forest walks, birdwatching, scenic flights, Maasai village visits, Trust activities visits. Fly camping, scenic flights and excursions to nearby national parks can be arranged at an additional cost.
