      Bilimungwe Bushcamp

      A Natural Utopia in Zambia

The South Luangwa National Park boasts verdant floodplains, mopane woodlands and indigenous hardwood forests, and a mighty river that attracts more than 60 different species of mammals and 400 species of birds. It’s a natural utopia and one of Africa’s truly great wildlife sanctuaries. It’s hard not to be seduced by the charm of Bilimungwe, where the traditions of the African bushcamp meet elegance and style to create a stunning camp that feels like it has grown organically out of the surrounding landscape. Set beneath a huge mahogany tree, the heart of Bilimungwe is the cool, shady lounge area that looks out over one of the camp’s three waterholes. Settle down in a cozy armchair with a sundowner and relax as you watch an enviable display of spectacular birds and animals. With the open waters of the Luangwa River on your doorstep and a nearby plain where leopards prowl, it’s clear that this is a nature lover’s paradise. Bilimungwe’s four raised thatched chalets have been carefully designed to ensure the height of comfort while still retaining that authentic bushcamp feel. The tangle of mature mahogany trees that surround camp are echoed in the rich, wood interiors and the beautiful wooden furniture, handmade by local artisans. Bright African textiles bring splashes of color to the elegant rooms. Each chalet boasts a private verandah overlooking a series of waterholes. The en-suite bathroom includes indoor and outdoor showers, twin wash basins, flush toilet and toiletries. Walking safaris are the specialty at Bilimungwe; however, day and night game drives are also offered. Take advantage of the exceptional knowledge and charm of resident guides on a combination of walking safaris, day and night game drives, and sundowners on the river’s edge. Two activities are offered each day. In between outings, enjoy the viewing the three permanent waterholes in camp.
