Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, Hermanus

Fly to the Cape coast and the marine wildlife wonderland, Grootbos. Here marine specialists will take you out on Walker Bay to see great white sharks and 40-ton Southern Right whales, only feet from your boat. Or you can admire the underwater antics of a 60,000 strong Cape Fur Seal colony.

Large suites give guests a chance to unwind, surrounded by the splendors of nature and pampered by all the comforts of home. Each suite has its own secluded balcony from which to admire the Indian Ocean, and winding pathways guide you through milkwood forests from the privacy of your suite to the main lodge. Drawing inspiration from the abundance of nature around them, their chefs also conjure up magical combinations - fish caught on that day and fresh homegrown vegetables, all enhanced with fresh flavors from the lodge's flourishing herb garden.

Explore this pristine coastline on foot or by four-wheel drive vehicle. You can also take a horse ride, lend a hand in the vegetable garden, or simply spend an afternoon exploring tidal rock pools and coastal caves, and lazing on a private swimming beach while enjoying a freshly packed picnic. Guests can also engage with their unique Green Futures community project that provides practical-based training programs for unemployed people in the fields of fynbos landscaping, horticulture, and eco-tourism.
