Frequently Asked Questions

- How long has Bushtracks been in business and who are the owners?
- Bushtracks was founded in 1991 and David and Carolyn Tett are the sole owners of the company.
- Are your aircraft safe?
- Bushtracks has built strong working relationships with select charter companies based throughout Africa, India, Canada, Alaska and the United States. The aircraft and the pilots are carefully chosen, and for our long haul flights we use twin-engine corporate aircraft that are safe and reliable.
- Will reading materials and information be available so that I can prepare myself for the trip?
- Yes. Members who sign up for the trip will be given a Bushtracks Planner to help them prepare for all aspects of the trip. Included in this information will be a reading list specifically compiled for the trip.
- Are tailor-made adventures more expensive than set departure trips?
- No, not necessarily. However, we do require a minimum of two guests and a ten-day consecutive land itinerary in order to operate a tailor-made safari.
- Bushtracks specializes in tailor-made adventures and are happy to help you design a trip that fits your budget and time-constraints. We can help give you an understanding of the various cost components affecting the price of your trip so you can make informed decisions while you are in the planning stages.
- What is your largest group size?
- Our tailor-made adventures accommodate two guests traveling together or more. No matter how many guests are traveling together, we will apply our specialist knowledge of each area and recommend the appropriate size accommodations, guides and aircraft.
- Do you have any guest references I can talk to?
- We are happy to supply references on request.
- Each year, approximately 60% of our new customers are word-of-mouth referrals, and Bushtracks honors our commitments, to our friends, patrons and the environment.
- We have also operated tours for National Geographic Expeditions, Lindblad Expeditions, Geographic Expeditions, World Wildlife Fund, California Academy of Sciences, American Museum of Natural History, Harvard Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Associates, and prestigious alumni associations including Stanford Travel/Study Programs, University of California Berkeley BearTreks, Cornell Adult University and Princeton University Alumni Council.
- What is included and not included in your programs?
- Generally our tours include domestic airfare, accommodations, most meals, activities and tours, guiding and transfers.
- Generally not included are items of a personal nature such as curios; excess baggage fees; travel and personal insurance; airport taxes; gratuities; phone calls; faxes; costs of obtaining passport, visas or other travel documents; inoculation fees; laundry and beverages; and extra optional tours and activities.
- How do you protect my investment?
- When you make any payments to Bushtracks for a trip, your funds are maintained in a separate Traveler Trust Account managed by First Republic Bank. This means we can refund you at any time per your request and the agreed booking terms and conditions.
- Bushtracks is also a California registered company, which means we are required under the California Seller of Travel Law (CST) to maintain a separate Traveler Trust Account. California Seller of Travel # 2022311-40
- How far in advance do I need to book?
- The earlier you plan, the better chance the space you require will be available. If you can plan up to twelve months in advance that is helpful, but if you are under that time frame, we can usually find availability depending on your group size, especially if you are flexible with your dates.
- What will the weather be like?
- You can find detailed climate information on each of our Trip pages, or the Southern Africa, Eastern Africa, North, West & Central Africa, India & The Himalayas and South America destination pages.
